Part 16: The CBAA Conference!
The main event of this trip....The CBAA Conference...
Now I will say that for most.... a Conference about Community Radio is not only boring but a waste of time.
Well, think about it....When you think of community radio...You think of old people rambling on the radio about their worthless lives, playing a symphony from Mozart and long awkward pauses in between them trying to find the right vinyl.....
Well it's actually nice to say...It's not all about that...But a fair bit is about that shit.
But in Adelaide, I am...And I'm also glad to say. I got through the Conference without pissing too many people off and tarnishing the name of 89.7 Twin Cities FM (but my image to me is much more important anyway). With my Co-Delegate and Station Queen Sandra Lubke, we attended many a talk, debate and discussion about community radio and it's problems, how to solve them about thier obsession with the eventual change to digital radio. But for me personal...It was chance to NETWORK and look for payed work (make noise you love to get payed!).
Actually...For me also....It was a time to mingle and try to see if I could pick-up (what?). Of course...I didn't pick up (as per fucking usual). But I got have some eye opening conversations with very nice and reasonably interesting peopele and meet the very awesome crew from the Melbourne Gay & Lesbian Radio Station JOY FM. These guys were the highlight of my trip here to Adelaide.
Now people that know me may take this as a surprise due to me being a hateful bastard and all...But assure you...I may hate the world and the majority of people in it...But I lack racial or sexual prejudice of any kind.
But if your Furgie, Gretel Killen or even Rove (Condolences to you about Belinda...yes, you fuckheads i do have a heart) then your going to cop some scorn....there is a hint in that.
And also i'd like to drop a shout to my mate "Banga" who was also at the Conference...much respect.
But of course...i have some gripes.
1. The Food...for the vast majority of Conferecne the food was fucking shithouse....wow...rice with no sauce....do you think that the Stanford Arms in Glenelg (the Conference Venue) were cutting costs...i think so.
AAAAAND
2. Youth Discussions...I know that we are "the youth of nation" and will inherit the earth...but do we have to be so wanky about it.
YOU ARE NOT BEING OPPRESSED...SHUT THE FUCK UP!!
*breathes*
But overall...i had a good time....and so ends a very interesting chapter of this blog.
I hope you join me for my next adventure...very soon.

Part 15: Fucking Disappointment!...and Adelaide
Bahhhhh,
All of fun was spoiled by people being calm and not drunk.....fuck.
anyway...my laugh at the expense of a "drunk cup bitch" non-event aside.
I'm here in Adelaide (photos pending)....I'm staying a NON-SHIT backpackers, with a bunch of reasonable intersting and cool people.
But...I had to have offically the worst sleep ever to get here...props to the Greyhound bus comapny...but fuck TRYING to sleep on a bus. Although I met 2 of the hottest women i have EVER met on that Bus (God Bless Holland!)...but alas...the trip was a pain in the neck....literally.
But! yesterday (after a catch-up power nap) I spent all day yesterday being "Gav: Tourist Boy" with a lovely a German lady name "Uschi". I'm glad that Adelaide is a small city....it means i can walk around this mutha fucker in a day...awesome shit!
Anyway...i will post the photos (thanks to Uschi) in the next couple of days...but also, the conference starts tonight...sooo it's Radio Nerd Time for me...
More soon!
Regards
Gav

Part 14: A Gripe with The Melbourne Cup
Hello Fiends...
Here I am...Melbourne Cup Day....and the ONLY reason I wanted to go, was to talk to some sinfully drunk "glamours" and have a HUGE laugh at thier expense (plus picking up wouldn't be out of the question).
But 40 bucks for the oppurunity (thats how much it is to go to racetrack , lose about a years salary on "having a punt" and get drunk).....sorry guys but
FUCK. THAT. SHIT!

But regardless....I will see these baffoons tonight (picture Megan Gale looking a rape victim and thats what the Melbourne Cup aftermath is like) as I drag my bags and me to Spencer St station and head to Adelaide for the CBAA Conference....and Me being the Radio nerd....I'm going to have BIG fun (trust me....i didn't run and ref 20 games a week and wait tables for the last 4 weeks for nothing).
They look nice now....but check back 7pm later that night
Sandra, one of my crew from back home will also be there scabbing my 2nd FREE ticket to the conference.
Note: I won 2 FREE tickets to the conference earlier in the year....saving Twin Cities FM a few hundred bucks....and yet no thanks...
Anyway, i'll tell the Post-Melbourne Cup drunken gauntlet story and much more tomorrow...LIVE from Adelaide...
Regards and a wine and cum stained dresses...

Part 11: Refereeing and a guy named Mantra
The title doesn't connect these things together so shush.
Firstly...
Mantra...

Mantra: Middle of the shot...
Is part of the Oz hip hop outfit "Equills"...who put out a decent album last year called "The New Threat"... I actually gave the single off "You Get Down" off that album a bit of a thrashing on The Caffeine Show, actually.
Now, this guy has one of the most impressive "flows" in Australian Hip-Hop....he is an incredibly sharp MC. But he blew me away at the Evelyn Hotel on Monday Night, BUT as well an awesome flow you may add... incredible rhyme structure, pattern work, delivery and breathe control to his arsenal....this blew me the fuck away...(no homo).
This guy when drops something find it and buy it (if you like Australian Hip-Hop Music).
Equills LP "The New Threat" is still in good hip-hop and record stores around this country of ours.

Refereeing....who would thunk it?
Yep, one of my hidden talents is that i'm an okay Basketball referee...i'll never referee the Perth Wildcats but I can make a few bucks out of of it.
So for a few extra dollars in Melbourne....my job is to referee basketball games, but it's not all wearing a stripy shirt and getting screamed at by businessmen, who can't satisfy thier wives in bed anymore so they take out thier sexual frustration on me......................what?
It's a good way to get fit and earn some quick money. Besides these whinging, crygirl, fuckwit grown men will usually get a very short response from me...i.e "oi, buddy take that crybaby whinging shit and maybe use it to defend the player properly or help your team".
I Love My Job!

Part 10: Jaz in Melbourne
Well, Well.... after yet another LONG week...here I am writing another pointless bloggage...
My Best Friend in the entire world deviated her trip to Sydney and made her way down to Melbourne to see me and boost my spirits....this woman is Jasmin.
Now Jaz (for the sake of only having to scribe one syllable) is this woman....

"Very.... Myspace, Jazzy"
Jaz and I are close...which as far as I'll go with this because it mostly "none of ya fucking beez"... and when she told me, she was coming down... I was actually nervous...Melbourne has changed me...hardened me up and it's been a month of being drowned in this "Melburnian" Culture. She arrived and I didn't die (personal joke) and did the backpacker thing and stayed in St.Kilda for a week.
But I finally did some touristy things...like look at St Kilda Beach (and the junk sluts and pimps) and Luna Park (it was closed)...looked at all the wankers sipping soy tea in Southbank (Chapel Street ain't got nothin on these fuckers), she showed me where she studied dance (Jaz is a dance teacher by trade) and whole more boring-to-you shit.
So that pretty much sums up week 5 in Melbourne.
But... I will let you the reader know coming up in the next few weeks... there will be tales of basketball refereeing in Victoria, a possible Great Ocean Road trip and...Gav goes to the CBAA Conference in Adelaide (which I'm VERY fucking excited about)...plus if anything outrageous or stupid happens...i'll let ya know...
Til next time...
Gav
